ROTTWEILERS WITH TAILS
WE OWN OUR FIRST ROTTWEILER WITH A TAIL "ULTIMO"
Why do Rottweilers have now natural tails?
In 1999 the country of Germany (Origin of the Rotti) passed a law that made it illegal to dock a dog's tail or crop a dog's ears. The basis for this law was the fact that the practice of docking and cropping was deemed to be inhumane treatment of animals.
In order to comply with the new law the ADRK revised the Breed Standard for the Rottweiler and this new breed standard required a natural Tail
Of course these news made it to Canada and Animal right activists started the debate and long story short now most Veterinarians joined force against tail docking and working to pass the same law.
As we always had our pups tails docked by a vet, it makes it now very hard not to say impossible to get the tails done unless we do it ourselves which is absolutely OUT of the question. We do not have the tools and sterile facilities as a vet and most of all not the knowledge to perform this procedure. Also we can not drive for 2 hours with a newborn litter of pups and mom to transport them to a vet who still might do the job. This would be harsh and stressful
on the pups and the mother.
We are still trying to get the tails done but just in case we can not convince a vet to do the procedure....our next litter more than likely will have tails.

which we trust with our dogs unconditionally
Seven Botched Puppies...
My name is, well, I guess I don't really have one yet. I am a 5 week old puppy with 6 brothers and sisters. Someone who did not care for us allowed our tails to be ruined and then left my mom, my siblings and I in the woods to die. Someone with a heart found us and turned us in to a shelter. Unfortunately, the shelter did not have the resources to repair our tails so they pleaded with some of the rescue organizations in the surrounding areas to take us in and give us the help we desperately needed. It was sad when we found out that mom might get adopted and leave us behind. I guess no one wanted to adopt us because of the way our tails looked. Even though we are so cute and innocent, once people saw our back ends, they backed away.
To take care of a tail which broke open is not an easy task. Many breeders had some and know how hard it is to care for a docked tail which opened up. It requires lot of cleaning and special care. So from that aspect we certainly prefer to have the tails as there is always a slight risk of one tail opening which needs a lot of extra attention not to get infected. Luckily our pups would never suffer like these, but we wanted to give you an idea of what infected docked tail looks like without any care.
We hope you find it in your heart to understand this tail issue and get used to the idea owning a wonderful Rottweiler with a happy wagging Tail.
