Hi Liz, thanks for the card, saw Kiri on it! We've been having fun in the snow with Kiri the last two weeks! She absolutely adores it! She will play in it for hours and like a little kid, it's hard to get her to come in for supper! We have never seen a dog who will amuse herself for so long as she does, she's a riot to watch (and at least she comes in clean!). And of course if you take her for a walk in it , she's in heaven.  I know she'll be sad to see it go but we're getting tired of shoveling! Hope you're not too bogged down there. Take care. Hi, Tupper, and Tuppers mom here ,

Got your email, and yes we got your christmas card.  I think its great, look forward to getting them every year.  Tupper is doing well, he loves this snow, and we have a new puppy we rescued so they are best of friends, playing tug of war, and running around the living room all the time.  Yes, he may love the snow, but loves to be inside where its warm, better..... heeheehee, and has taken to sleeping on our good leather couch lately....... Hope all is well with you, and the rest of your gang....
I've attached a few pictures (one is of him, just this past fall, and the other two, taken just a few days ago) of tupper for you, he just had his 7th birthday in October.   I will try to write back once and a while when i find the time, but is a little bit harder right now, as im working full time.  And as soon as ive sent this email off to you, i'll take a peek at your site, see whats new over your way.

Take care,
laura, tupper, and the rest of the brethour family.

Subject: Asia
To: Engelberg rottis

Hi Liz

Sorry about the hit and miss.  You and I seem to have clashing schedules :-)
Now with the holiday season done there is some breathing room.
Asia is just adorable (well adorable for the first 5 minutes) the past few weeks she has shown her personality and she fits right in beautifully.  We just Love her spit fire attitude.  In the morning she is so excited to see you, she just vibrates.  You can't help but smile.  So even when you wake up a tad cranky within minutes she has you just perky.  That goes for my husband too.  He wasn't much of a morning person (I used to stay in bed till he had his coffee)  He is even smiling and telling me about her in the am.
She has the spunk to stand up to Gator, though she is only the size of his head, she has shown him that the new boss is in town.
We have them separated with a baby gate, she has the living room and he has the kitchen.  That is how it was all the time for the first few days, now just when we are not around to watch them together.
Asia would have it no other way but to be with Gator. She is cute when she is peeking through the gate crying(shocking that tone doesn't break the glass in the windows) because she can't see Gator.  He hears her cry(how he cannot) and will move from his favorite spot at the door (nice and cool for him) and he will go lay by the baby gate so she can touch him with her paw or nose(probably so she does shut up and than he can get back to sleep).
He also calmy sits by while she eats out of his food bowl.  Good sign of man whipped by woman.
That is a fight actually on our part to try and keep her out of his bowl and eating her own food.  Thanks for the advice on the food change after 4 months wouldn't have known that otherwise.
The cats are not quite to sure what to think of her yet.  She smells like a dog so they should hate her and hence hiss at her.   But the size is not of a dog so they are a little nicer to her than Gator.
She peeks her nose outside but that is about it.
We made a big litter box for her, and she uses it quite well.
Her only accidents are if she has her rear end over the edge a little bit.  That has only happened a few times.
We will shovel her out a spot in the back yard for her now that it is no longer -51 out there.  Today it is around -20 so that is good.
We are very happy with her, and know she is fitting in just wonderfully.
Thanks Liz
Happy Holidays
Leanne

Dear Liz

After the long ferry ride back home, Tyson and Sobe finally met once we got
out of the car.
I was very surprised that Tyson was the one who barked and growled first,
even though Sobe was in our family first and it was her territory. Really
shows that Tyson is very protective of any strange dogs that approaches.
But it was no problem at all for Sobe, for she knew that Tyson was a pup and
just let him express himself. After a couple of sniffs here and there, they
were inseparable. No signs of jealousy at all from Sobe, she just let him
play with her toys and wonder about in her backyard. I was very worried
during the car ride back, because I was so afraid that both of them wont get
along and fights would break out.
It was very relieving to see that both of them getting along. Sobe would lie
down on her back and Tyson would just climb all over her. Both of them
kissing each other and Sobe automatically knew how to watch where she steps.
Its just amazing.
I will send the pictures very soon of them together, for I need my brother's
assistance with the uploading to the computer.
Other than that, I would just like to express how honoured and happy to have
met you and your wonderful dog kingdom. All the dogs that come out from your
home are #1 in temperament and in style.
Thank you Liz! All the best and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a
fabulous Happy New Year! Take cares!

Sincerely,
Eddy and Emily Kwok

Hi Liz,
Just wanted to send you a note to let you know how things are going with Zena.
To put it mildly she is the most amazing animal I have ever met, never mind owned.
I can not get over how friendly and loving she is (granted this is my first experience with females). I take her for a hike with my mother every day, and not ever having been a dog person it is truly amazing how my mother feels about her.  She calls herself grandma, and when we mention the word grandma, Zena is right at the front door.
We walk her with other dogs as much as possible, and she is truly the most passive of them all.  Twice a week we walk with a purebred scotty dog, and a hound crossed with rottweiler.  The mixed breed is wonderful, but the scotty dog puts the run on Zena regularly and Zena always concedes.
Today we went out with those two dogs as well as a 6 year old lab cross and a purebred golden retriever who is only 8 months and I was truly amazed and incredibly proud of Zena' behaviour. She walks away from confrontation at all times, and gives all other animals their own space; yet I have no doubt that she would come to Bernie's and my rescue in a second.
Before we picked her up you said that she demanded attention and she still does, she must always be touching someone. She's up on the couch with Bernie regularly and has even sucked me in on being allowed to be there. Even when we are walking she must touch my mom or I quite often.
Again being my first female it amazes me that she has no desire to leave the yard. If I let her out to see someone while I am getting my shoes on she will not even leave the alcove until I come out. I have never experienced a more loyal dog.
On another note; we think we have sold our home, and are ready to make an offer on 10 acres just a few minutes out of town. It has a creek running through it and borders crown land, which means we could access thousands of acres of raw land either by foot or quad (which I believe I told you earlier we had made a trailer to transport Zena in behind it).
I truly can't thank you enough Liz for allowing us to bring Zena into our family, and if any Rottweiler can change or impact on peoples opinions of this breed in a positive way she is the one. You would not believe the following she has already and our only regret is that we did spay her, as I do not believe that there could ever be another animal whose genes we would wish to continue as much as hers.
 Thank you again,
 Best regards,

Kim Blackburn

hi Liz and peter, merry Christmas to you all. i received your card and i'm sorry for your loss. we feel your pain as we recently had to put Kato down due to cancer of the spleen. she would have been 9 on November 27. Kato was a wonderful dog, and my relationship with her was particularly tight. she was a daddy's girl and came everywhere with me. she had an incredible life with many camping trips and boating trips to Sidney spit. other than tearing her acl she was a very healthy and happy Rotti. in her prime she could run 40 miles an hour on the sand at Sidney spit!!!!  amazing hey!! she was loved by the entire family and was very loyal and loving. i work on the super ferry and when i was at sea she watched after my wife and 2 kids very closely. always made me feel better knowing she was there for them when i couldn't be. my daughter is 3 and we have explained to her that Kato is in heaven and feeling better and playing again. she seems to be okay with that thank god. with 2 small kids now is not the time for a puppy, however there is a hole in our life without her. anyway, her death was a very peaceful event, i truly believe she is happy in heaven, we loved her 100 percent and she gave it back in spades. merry xmas and a happy new year.

Hi Liz,

Just a short note to let you know that Zena is doing great.
She just finished her second session with the trainer; and believe it or not the trainer says (as well as my girlfriend who has her own dog there) that Zena is the best puppy in the group. She is quite calm, and picks up all commands almost immediately.
She gets spayed next month, and is now caught right up on her shots including rabies. My vet is in love with her also (don't have the heart to tell these people that she's not always so angelic).
She weighed in at 50 pounds yesterday, and I swear I can almost watch her growing.
Anxious to see her reaction to the snow; could be any day now, and then we will be doing lots of cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.
Will send you a copy of her spaying as soon as it is done.
Take care,
Kim Blackburn

When I took him in for his last set of shots he weighted in at 53 lbs. The vets say he is going to be a very big dog. I am very pleased with him. I haven't had any problems with him with testing yet and I don't think it will be that bad if he does. He has become very attached to my son and very protective of him. I have attached some pictures of Diezel that I took when he was four months old. Anyways I hope to hear from you soon to see what you think of him.

been living in Bangkok, Thailand and I'm sure glad we have Sessa with us as
she is a well behaved and easy to handle, we had no problem with the trip
over here and what with all her vaccination certificates in order her was
able to deplane with us. She spends the nite keeping the elephants away,
doing a good job as I havn,t seen one this year then sleeping away the day
when it's to hot to be working at such a strenous job. Have attached a photo
of her with our new addition Co-co. Wish she was as easy to train. Hope your
business is doing well and do take care.

Hi Liz,

Long time…no talk.

I thought I’d take the time to update you on Rufus.  He had his first birthday yesterday and is doing very well.  You have provided us with an incredible dog, both in temperament and stature.  Rufus has been through two extensive obedience courses, of which has earned “top dog” in the first class and near the top in the second (owners got a tad lazy!).

He has a great personality with family and friends, however is very protective when strangers are around.  One thing that definitely surprised us though, is his intelligence.  When he looks you in the eye, he appears to understand everything you say.

I also travel quite frequently on business, which means Marcie is often by herself.  Rufus is the best alarm system anyone could ever own.

Both Marcie and I are very happy that we chose you as our breeder of choice.  We will recommend your dogs to anyone that is interested in a great addition to their family!

Yours truly.

Now this one is going to be real short, as I have to get going home.

Elias is doing very well. His temperament is excellent and his
tolerance is endless. No wonder your pups are so sought after. You
sure have done an excellent job in your selection of who to breed with
whom. He is 99 lbs and his coat gleams in the sunshine. He is a real
happy little man but still such a puppy, the beast!

I don't have a computer, this is my girlfriend's address.

I have to go, take care ....

Hi Liz,
How are you doing?  We are doing very well.  My neighbour took a picture of
Charles, my son and Youkai with her digital camera.  As you predicted,
Youkai is asking to go pi outside now. ( within 1 week. She had a few
accident the first week, but I find she is amazing.  As soon as I will
develop my film I'm going to scan our family picture and send it to you.  I
made an apointement for Tuesday August 17 for Youkai's shot.  She will get
her first flea treatement tonight.  During the day, she likes sleeping under
the kitchen table while I'm washing my dishes or using my food processsor!
I think she's more confident now.  She goes up and down running the stairs
(backyard).  She is not confident enough to go easily on the inside stairs,
( we live in a 3 levels unit) but she goes through tunnels we made for her.
Whiskers and her are starting to play together which is good for my cat's
overweight.  We are planning to go to a lake today, and I wonder if it is
too early to let her go swimming into the lake.  By the way I found the book
" How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend" at the library and I put a hold on the "
The Art of Raising a Puppy". Also, we are going to ask to my veterinarian
for good reference for puppy trainers in Victoria.
P.S. She loves fruit treats. ( bluberries, peaches, plums, watermelon)
Cheers

Liz,

I wanted to share some pictures with you that I took of Katta this week.  I'm so happy with Katta, he's an amazing dog!  He doesn't cry when it's bed time in the kennel and he's so excited when I wake him up every morning and take him outside before I go to work.  He's yet to have an accident in the house which I think is fantastic.  He gets along with the other animals in the house.  Carol-ann's dog Dakota doesn't bother Katta at all, but he is jealous of all the attention that Katta gets.  Patty the male kitten loves to play with Katta.  They wrestle atleast 4/5 times a day.  When they've had enough they just walk away from each other and don't bother each other again for a while.  The Kids love the puppy and so do all my friends.  I told the kids that I was going out to pick up a surprise and that I'd be back in 30 mins.  When I brought the puppy home last Sunday the kids were amazed.  As soon as I walked through the door the little one (Christian) fell in love with Katta.  He kept asking is that puppy ours, can we keep it.  And he kept saying Pete I love your Puppy.  The soonest Vet appointment I could get with Katta is next Tuesday at 2:45pm.  But it should be worth the wait, everyone at work recommended this doctor to take Katta to.  They said she's the best in North Bay.  I'll let you know how that goes next week.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy taking them of Katta.  I'm so happy with Katta, thank you so much, Liz.  Have a great weekend...

Hi Liz,
I thought you would like to share a "rotten" story about our Bagira...rottis need the attention they deserve.  I am tired of hearing peoples' reactions to the name Rottweiler and all the TV shows that show horrible stories about Rottis. My wish is that everyone's reaction to hearing Rottweiler will be a positive one...the one these pups deserve!
Bagira is now 4 years old and is my baby...the first time my husband suggested we get a Rotti, my reaction was..."are you crazy, we have a 4 year old and a baby on the way...aren't these animals big, scary, vicious...shall i go on!" that's what i always heard as it seems this is all that's said on TV about these loving and loyal animals...they never show them for what they really are!
Bagira is a very loving and loyal part of our family...i couldn't live without her.  When I look into her eyes; they are filled with such love that it brings tears to  my eyes.  She's the best family dog, best house dog and best protector we have ever been blessed with.

I had a security alarm salesman come to my door and when i opened the door i had to hold back Bagira while she growled at this unknown threatening man to her...i asked him if he made it past her to the couch, i buy his alarm...well, he shook his head and not thought twice...but then mentioned if she was part of the family, what happens when you go on vacation and she goes too!...I said...then there's no one in my home to be harmed and the robbers can come in and take what they want!  haven't had any more alarm salesman bother us!

the other story i wanted to share with you is our new edition of the family...a guinea pig...yes, I've heard Rottis instinct is to kill rats...but not with our Bagira...she acts like a mom and cuddles the pig...pig is not afraid of the dog, she sleeps in Bagiras bed with her and crawls under Bagira's paw and pokes out her little head...neither moves or gets squashed! Bagira only sniffs and kisses.
when i was pregnant this Rotti sniffed at my belly, sensed there was a baby and never jumped up...to this day she thinks she's the mom
Bagira is so playful and gentle with my kids and my pig...I'm just amazed with her and loves to cuddle! she "spoon sleeps"!!!

So please when thinking of "Rottweiler"...give them a chance, you get what you give...love is love' s reward and the best "rotten" reward you'll ever receive...is the reward of time spent with a Rotti!

thanks again Liz for bringing Bagira into our heart and home...and i am so excited about our newest edition to our family in the next couple of months...a new baby Rotti!  I'll never own another dog and its a good thing i don't have a big house or I'd own a lot more than 2!!....just need a king size bed now for me and my two babies...i guess hubby's on the couch now!ha!ha!

a very proud Rotti mom,

Hi guys!  Great to hear from you by mail & e-mail!  Haven't had time to check out your web pages lately, but I do try to look in every now and again to see what's new.

Can't remember the last time I wrote or talked to you.  It's been too long at any rate.  Roscoe is fine and is still our very special boy.  He is the most exceptional dog we've ever owned by far.  At the moment he's curled up on the couch next to Ruby.  She was rescued from a shelter by Mike Jackman, handler of Oliver (the #1 all-time Canadian Rotti champion in Canada).  Ruby is one of Oliver's daughter's - we tried to get her papers but the former owner was uncooperative and we eventually ended up having her spayed.  Too bad, she would have been a lovely Mom and I can tell she's had puppies already.
Unfortunately, she's got a few very bad habits.  I've managed to break her of some of them, but I think she'll take some to the grave with her.  It's obvious that she's been chained, left without food or water, and is used to having people afraid of her.  Some people think I should have her put down, but it's not her fault people have turned her into what she is.  With family she's a big suck, but I have to be very careful all of the time when I take her out.  Once I get settled again and get my stuff out of storage, I'll try to remember to send you some pictures. I'd still love to get another pup.  Maybe once I get another job, another house.  Keep in touch and best wishes for 2000 to both of you.

I am always so busy at work that I don't get a chance to play on the

It was nice talking to Peter on the phone.  If he ever comes through Cranbrook again, tell him to phone us and maybe we can get together.  Like I told him we are very happy with Titan.  He is such a great dog.  He loves to play and likes lots and lots of attention.  Bob asks him to give him a kiss every night before he goes to bed and he licks his face.  He understands so many words; it is  amazing.  He is a good watch dog.  I don't worry if I am home alone.  Bob takes him for walks and sometimes stops to visit a friend at their house.  He tells Titan to stay inside the door and he waits there until Bob leaves.  People don't mind him coming into their home because he is so obedient.

Today is my last day at work; I come back on Jan. 4.  I am looking forward

softie, and has such an outstanding personality that we think he would make
an excellent dad. Hopefully he has realized how to use his equipment by now.
If he isn't breeding quality, then it is time for him to be neutered.
Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Jim

Hi Liz and Peter:
We saw those beautiful photos of Sitka and Tarmac on your website.
They are great; as are all the other photos.
The dogs had a great time in our big snowfall, although
there were a couple of days when it was too deep for them to play in it.

Tarmac is going to 'grown up' doggy school now. This will be for 8 weeks; Terry is taking him.
Terry estimates that Tarmac weighs more than Sitka now (over 90 pounds);
I'll take him to the vet soon to have him weighed.

He is a big lovable beauty (Tarmac that is!).
Tarmac really reminds me of Leila; his eyes are the same and he is as wiggly as his mum!
I'll let you know Tarmac's progress in school; I think that he will do quite well!

I hope that everything is going well up there!

Subject: Just an Update on Akasha
Date:Wed, 8 Jan 1997 00:28:45

Just thought I would update you on how Akasha is doing.
She is adjusting well and is already learning so much.
I am teaching her "Sit", "Stay", "Leave It", "Fetch", "Come",
"Be Quick", "Down", "Off", "Release" and "Heel".
She does the "Sit" almost all the time now and stays for
at least 10 - 20 seconds, although she does get distracted sometimes.
She is slowly learning "Heel", "Off" and "Down", but she really responds to "No"
if she is nipping. She usually starts to lick your hand or backs off.

I am very pleased with her progress since she is only 13 weeks.

I will try to send you a picture soon.
We just have to get one scanned so we can send it over the Internet.
We will send you one in the mail for your collection too.
Akasha responds well to the camera and we have some really cute shots.

We took her for her first real walk last week and she seems to enjoy it.
She is very responsive to children as long as they do not
rush up to her and she loves to meet new people.
She is a very people oriented dog.
Although I know that she is still keeping a close eye on me.
When Kerry and I go for a walk with her and they end up a few paces ahead of me,
Akasha always stops and looks back and waits for me to catch up.
She will be my protector I'm sure.
She has already doubled at least in size and she looks as though she will be long limbed.
Her last vet check had her weighing 16 pounds when last month she was 6.5 pounds.
She is getting along with the cats and plays with them on
a regular basis, mostly play chasing and such.

Anyway, I better sign off now and as I said, as soon as we get a picture
on diskette or CD we will send you a picture.
Take care!! Always,
Jenniffer Brandon

Hello from Cowichan!

Porteus Max (Jake for short) is doing VERY WELL. After the typical puppy
craziness, he has socialized nicely. He has spent every minute of every
day in the house or with us out of the house in the horse fields. He and
our Cairn Terrier are getting along famously as best buds. After a peck
or two on the nose he has learned that our Muskovy Ducks are not to be
messed with, that our Siamese cat "likes his space", and that our two
horses are much larger than him!! NO JAKE DON'T CHASE THE HORSES!
Actually they taught him themselves with a gentle tap on the shoulder
with a hoof ( no harm done). In other words he's everyone's friend and
baby and knows where he stands in the pack..

After 4 months on various beds in the house, he has accepted his nightly
spot in his kennel with grace. He's actually much better about his
kennel than our Cairn Terrier, who just can't quite get used to the
idea!

We are very impressed with Jake. After traveling about and seeing other
Rottis we're convinced that we made the right choice in calling on you.
Your kids have great temperaments! Nice strong body and enough energy to
keep us all going!!!!!!

Jake will be seeing the vet in May to "get tutored" (or is it neutered)?
He is also set for obedience training next month as well. It would
appear that Jake has bonded the best with Meryle. The two go jogging
together and are really quite the team. Just the other day he discovered
his bark. Whoa-boy, what a surprise. There we all were in the living
room, when he goes to the door and WWOOOOFFFF! WHO'S THERE? (Wow, what a
voice. Nice and deep.) AND KEEP THE HELL OFF MY STREET WHILE YOU'RE AT
IT!   He's a great friend, and we love him.

Again thanks.

Subject: Pics of Deja

Hello Liz,
We finally got ourselves a scanner up here in Campbell River so I thought I'd send you a couple of recent pictures(any excuse to play with the scanner).  Everything is going good up here .Deja is still great with the baby although she still doesn't seem to realize her size and weight.  Which by the way was about 90lbs three months ago.  She is really tall a and lanky , quite beautiful we think. Anyways got to go.  Drop us a note.

Subject: "Rosie The Rotten Rottie" (spoiled rotten that is!)

Hi Liz & Peter,
Just wanted to drop you a short note to say hi, and let you know how Rosie
is doing.
Rosie has just recently completed level one of training classes at
Westhaven Training Academy. Although she was the youngest dog in the class,
she was by far the smartest! She was always the first to figure out new
commands. Of course once she figured it out she then had to decide weather
or not she actually wanted to do it! She is a very wilful and stubborn
dog! The trainers at Westhaven were really excellent! They had nothing but
praise of Rosie's  abilities and temper mint. I would recommend them above
any of the other places in Victoria.
As you can see from the pictures, Rosie has quickly become a central figure
in our family. Kayla, our two year old, absolutely adores her! Rosie loves
her as much, if not more! They spend a lot of time together, and I have yet
to feel any kind of fear or distrust of Rosie around her. I think they will
grow up being the very best of friends.
Since she has finally figured out where she is supposed to pee, Rosie has
given us nothing but joy and happiness.
Thank you so much!
Take care,
The Curtis Family.
